Challenge

Modern neurosurgery demands extraordinary precision. Even millimeter deviations during surgery can lead to significant neurological impact. However, existing surgical navigation systems are often expensive, bulky, and complex - placing them out of reach for many medium to large hospitals, especially in cost-sensitive regions. These institutions face a difficult trade-off between accuracy, integration, and affordability.

CAPLA, a MedTech innovator based in the High-Tech Hub of Munich, set out to change that. Their goal: create a neuro-navigation system that delivers sub-millimeter surgical precision, seamless workflow integration, and affordability - without compromising on quality. To succeed, CAPLA needed to pair clinical insights with advanced AI and visualization capabilities, while also simplifying the surgical workflow for busy neurosurgical teams.

Outcome

CAPLA partnered with Wayland to integrate the Wayland Platform, bringing AI-enhanced precision and sensor processing into its surgical navigation system. Working alongside CAPLA’s engineering and clinical teams, Wayland enabled advanced sensor fusion, real-time 3D localization, and ultra-responsive control logic within CAPLA’s system in a span of 5 months. CAPLA's proprietary software interface has been optimized with the Wayland Platform based on NVIDIA's AGX architecture.

By leveraging Wayland’s technology and expert support, CAPLA reduced development time by at least 10 months, shortening development time by 66%, and it is on track to deliver a cost-effective, highly accurate system for clinical use.
